What is Hirudoid used for?

Hirudoid's active ingredient is a heparinoid (mucopolysaccharide polysulfate), a topical anticoagulant/anti-inflammatory cream. It improves local blood circulation, inhibits inflammatory mediators, and promotes the reabsorption of bruising and fluid buildup, so it is commonly used to relieve bruising and swelling after blunt trauma and as an adjunct treatment for superficial thrombophlebitis.

How to take Hirudoid and adjust the dose

For topical use: apply once or twice daily, using about 3–5cm of cream on the affected area and gently massaging until absorbed. The Forte formula may be applied in the morning after waking and at night after showering. For external use only — do not apply to broken skin or wounds, and avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes. Do not bandage the area after application. See a doctor if bruising/swelling does not improve within a few days or continues to spread.

Hirudoid side effects

• Common: redness or mild irritation at the application site
• Uncommon: allergic rash

Who should not take Hirudoid?

• Allergy to any ingredient in the product
• Do not use on broken or open skin/wounds
• Not suitable for those with bleeding disorders (e.g. hemophilia, thrombocytopenia, purpura), as even minor bleeding could lead to serious complications
• Avoid contact with eyes and oral mucosa
• Consult a doctor before use in children
